We are very proud of New Zealand’s reputation as a clean green country and wish to do all we can to enhance this reputation.
We understand our guests concerns that air travel to New Zealand can cause some environmental damage. As part of our commitment to the environment we have formed a partnership with Trees for Survival, a programme which promotes the growing and planting of native trees to help control soil erosion.
We pledge that we will donate to Trees for Survival 2% of the total spend with us by overseas guests who refer to this commitment at the time of making a booking.
The sustainable Business Network estimates that it takes the planting of 23 trees to offset carbon emissions for a standard car for one year. At a cost of an average of $5-00 per tree, then donations totalling $120 would offset the total carbon emissions for a vehicle for a year. Trees for Survival was established by the Auckland Regional Council working in conjunction with Rotary New Zealand and is administered by a Charitable Trust, which engages schools, supporting organisations, local Councils and landowners in community partnerships to protect local environments.
The programme involves schools with hands-on practical environmental education. Using a specially designed plant growing unit installed in the school by a sponsor, such as a Rotary Club, pupils care for and grow native plants from seedling to the stage of planting out. The mature trees are then planted on erosion prone land to safe guard stream and water quality, provide shade for stock along planted margins and improve productivity.
